Okay kids, after no few furious emails the domain is fully back under my control and we are on the new host. One with a bloody good uptime record. DNS changes are spreading and soon all will be well.

The boards seem to be currently up and running, and unless someone posted between godawfull early this morning when I backed up the database and whenever we switched over, nothing has been lost there. Give em a workout and let me know if anything is broke.

ACGM is down right now. Hopefully either I or Dahkhan will have that mess back functioning soon. Hopefully more Dahk than I, considering my track record with the blasted thing. (/me flutters lashes at Dahk and looks hopefull)

And in case anyone recognises it, yes I use Livejournal for this main news section. Just ignore the links at the top, the transfer screwed it up somehow and I have to figure out how to suppress those again.

Everything else has survived intact, and we have SCADS more space now, so drown my cohort in screenies and stuff and make him do some work eh? *grin*

The October Letter to the Players is here.
As the forces of Dereth focus on ridding the land of the Olthoi, we can't help but wonder what lies on the horizon.

Here's a point from the letter some may find usful information:

The October Event

Judging by our schedule in past months, you would expect the October event to take place a week and a half after this Letter is posted. This month, however, the event will be roughly a week later than normal. Our current target for the event is the last week in October.

The Zone has plans for annual maintenance in late October, and asked us if we would be willing to push our event back a week. This was to ensure that none of their maintenance would impact our event in any way.

To get you through the extra week, the teaser will be a little longer than usual, and spread out over a few days. (Teaser, Part 1)

In other event news, the October download will be larger than usual. (If you watch the splash screens after the download is complete, you'll see one of the reasons why.)

It seems that logging in with Decal running cause AC to crash when you press a directional key. I shall try and research this more later as I have no time to do it now.

Well, as you can see by that stunning self-introduction, I've ~~conscripted~~ taken on Dahkhan as co-webmaster.

I realise that it's important to have someone who is active and up-to-date on current news in the Guild, and in Dereth in general, updating here. And while I am still a member, and I am still playing occasionally... well, I no longer really fit that description.

Does that mean I'm going away for good? Hell no. I'm still available via eMail and IM (pick a client, any client, most weekday evenings after midnight) and I will still be making my occasional appearance in-game when circumstances allow.

In the meantime, be good to each other, and give Gand and Dahk as hard a time as possible. Dahk, you've got the conn partner.

January Letter To Players is HERE.

Mages are once again are firmly in the Turbie's sights. We get another way to help us ungimp ourselves. Gaerlan gets "fixed". And an alternative for those lag-inducing subway Trade Bots is introduced!

In an attempt to soothe the howling, Drain Health ranges are increased, Life bbolts get sped up, War Volley spells hit harder, and streaks will mostly do less damage, but will cast faster. And the old Hide value/True Value spells are being replaced with something that will give mages a reason to get that Item school up again...

A quest "similar to the one introduced for skill sell-back" is going to give us the ability to change our Attributes 10 points at a time. The hitch is... A) only the 250 "startup" points and B) the standard 2 week timer.

And the new command is *drumroll* "@Marketplace"!!! Whether the bots actually move or not is anyone's guess...

NEW DECAL RELEASE

There is a new release on Decal, this time a mandatory update!

"Although older releases will appear to work correctly for a time, they may suddenly stop functioning, or behave strangely - Please, all users: Upgrade to 2.5.0.1."

My guess is that you'll be ok till patch day, but when you try to upgrade your .XML packets something will go terribly wrong. It's a mostly painless upgrade, it self-uninstalls old versions and auto-loads your apps so you dont have to uninstall/reinstall everything. Just DL and run. Unless of course, you're Starla.

Numerous little updates.

I've updated the Gallery page again, but we're running low on mugshots from active player! C'mon folks give em up!

I've updated the Screenshot section again, with submissions from Ferngood, Rigell and myself, including a special pictoral of Rigell's vacation on Tusker Island! Check it out!

And if you scroll down a TAD further is a submission in the form of a song parody. Blame Gui Long, she started it. (Well, maybe not started it, considering mine is over on CoD in the Parodies section...)

The Guild Tree as far as I can tell is fully functional. However as of a few minutes ago when I looked, we are shy over 100 character entries. Please update your info! Pretty Please? You can download the CORRECT versions of the Client and Link for Decal HERE. The default password is HOAtree (please change your password as soon as you update, since this is publicly posted)and the server address is:

ac-guild.dsafire.net/cgi-bin/acgm/server.cgi

Make sure your vassals are in the tree, and at least aware of the fact that we do have a site. :)

Its it patch day already? Well, almost. Tomorrow.

This months' TEASER is in its usual spot, with a Movie here.

Something about a new island!?!

There's also a LETTER TO PLAYERS that everyone should have a look at, detailing (ta-da!) Skill Sellbacks!! That's right, all us gimps out there will now have the chance to get ungimped, and re-gimp ourselves in some new and exciting ways!!

There is also a change in how loot will be dropped from critters... Its a 6th Sense/Bandit Sight looter nerf! But heck, if it leashes the lagbeast a bit... No word on the "tweaking" of Life magic for this month though.

Now if everything just works this patch... :::crosses her fingers:::

Rigel the Great has joined the mugshot crew on the gallery page, Grand Magician has sent in a new screenie, and we've added a new forum on the Guild-boards!

The new forum is for in-house trading and wishlists. If you need a certain trophy item, if you're shy a piece of jewelery for your life-prots collection, if you need that mule space back, post it there! You know SOMEONE will want that stuff..right?

ACGM, AKA the bane of my existance

OK, I had to upgrade the server again. :::dodges rocks::: And we all have to DL and install a new client and Link if you use it (which I really DO recommend if you use Decal at all). Two reasons for this.

1)Was that Link was "broken" (why I wasnt in a tearing rush to do it) by the last patch. The changes in protocol for the last patch required a change in the way Link is coded. So since we had the BETA version up rather than the FINAL, and ACGM isnt backwards compatable we had to upgrade or not use Link.

2) Is there was a bug that caused the tree.dat file (IE: everyone's info) to become corrupted. This bug has since been corrected, and I thought we were unaffected by it. I thought wrong. If you opened the tree page here in the past few days and saw the "server setup is successful!" message... well, guess what happened.

The third part IS my fault and if you throw rocks now I promise not to dodge. I slacked on backing up the server files and so I had to install a WAY old backup of the tree.dat file. Unfortunately this means pretty much EVERYONE has to do a full update.

On the upside, we are NOT going to do this again unless AC protocals are drastically changed again. Lorus has something else in the works, he says maybe in a month or so but unless its pretty nifty indeed I wont be tempted.

Upgrade of ACGM

The ACGM server has been upgraded to its newest version, now supported by Lorus.

Please head on over to his site HERE and download the new version of the client,V 1 Beta

All passwords and the place to point your client should have remained the same. Let me know ASAP if that's not so.

But please note the New Questing functions (which I havent played with yet), and that there is now space to log in all four of your ties, lifestone and portal.

A New Letter Posted to the Zone

There will be, effective the next patch, a change in the way the skill system is being handled regarding specialization of skills in particular.

With the next update, we are changing the nature of the bonus that you get when specializing a skill at character creation. This change will be retroactive - that is, it will apply to all existing characters with specialized skills as well as new characters created after the update.

Remote loading is OK, so if you're a message board hound on other AC related boards and would like, you can use gallery images as sig files where permitted.

Message board Avatars. Here on our site, Im still having trouble figuring out why I cant get the gallery avatars to work on PHPBB, but remote loading has been enabled and is functional. Again, I'm willing to host, just send me the file. Avatar limitations are 100x100 pixels per image.

Yes, your Queen was brutally murdered earlier tonight attempting communication with Martine the Mad, former servant of the Virindi in Glenden Wood.

Unfortunately, not much chat happened due to the number of Isparian heros attempting to slay the mad one, who were dispatched with brutal efficiency. Dont attack Martine should you come across him! Try to get him to talk!

Time out for a barbecue break on the Elysa's Favor quest.

The quest has yet to reach the final phase, having been halted due to extreme exhaustion of our leader, Gotha (not to mention the rest of us...)despite his valiant efforts to stay awake.

Anyone wishing to join the team for the FINAL phase PLEASE chime in on the boards, or message Gandolfv, myself, or Gotha. You will need to complete both the Yaraq and Holtburg sections of the quest before we resume, probably next weekend.
